Universal Studios Hollywood has had quite a few welcome changes making the park a lot more family friendly while continuing to be a destination for adults of all ages and showcasing the company’s favorite movies and characters. New additions such as King Kong’s Skull Island, Fast & Furious Supercharged, Transformers: The Ride 3D, Jurassic World: The Ride (formerly Jurassic Park: The Ride), Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter featuring two rides, DreamWorks Theater which replaced Shrek 4D, and AMC’s The Walking Dead maze that was recently permanently closed making way for the Secret Life of Pets themed area and newest attraction.

Although Universal Studios Hollywood nor Universal Studios Orlando have yet to make an official announcement, it is safe to say they will join Universal Studios Japan with a Super Nintendo World experience. At Universal Studios Hollywood, visitors have taken notice of major construction taking place in the lower lot area near Transformers: The Ride 3D starting back in December of 2018. While it was tough to say what was being built throughout the construction process, we can now safely assume it will be home to Super Nintendo World.

Universal Studios Japan’s Super Nintendo World features green hills which are now present, viewable and being positioned at the Hollywood location. Additionally, Browser’s castle featured in the Super Mario games is also slowly starting to take shape. Super Nintendo World in Japan opened to fans on March 17, 2021 after its original opening date in summer of 2020 was pushed back due to COVID-19. The land which reportedly cost around half a billion dollars to develop features two rides, similar to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter concept, shopping and dining. Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge is the main attraction that will have riders wearing AR glasses, driving the vehicle, and going through various obstacles as they wheel their way through a race track lasting around five minutes. The other ride is Yoshi’s Adventure, a much more child friendly ride themed after the dinosaur character in Super Mario video games. Yoshi’s Adventure will have guests set off on a journey searching for Yoshi’s lost treasure. Park visitors also have the option of purchasing a bands (similar to Wizarding World wand concept) that sync up with the theme park’s app to provide an interactive experience.
